Introduction

This book is designed to be used in a one-semester Applied Algebra course that is a freshmen level, gateway math course. It was written to be used mainly for students in technical programs and non-STEM students, but there is content still built into the text that would allow this book to be used for STEM student courses as well. Sections were added (#.R) as review sections in some chapters so that the textbook can be used for corequisite support courses. The main purpose of this Applied Algebra textbook is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to solve real-world problems.

About This Book

This textbook was created as part of the Building a Competitive Workforce project, facilitated by LOUIS: The Louisiana Library Network and funded by a $2.125 million Open Textbooks Pilot Program grant from the Department of Education. This project supports expanded access to and completion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses through the development of open educational resources (OER) courses, or courses that assign textbooks and other materials which are freely available to students.

The cohort-developed OER course materials are released under a license that permits their free use, reuse, modification and sharing with others. This includes a corresponding course available on the LOUIS Federally Funded Dual Enrollment OER Book Directory that can be imported to Learning Management System platforms.
