20 Peer Pointers

The human skeleton is made up of two parts- the axial
skeleton and the appendicular skeleton.

The Axial skeleton includes all the bones that are a part of the
“Axis” of the body. These bones are the Skull, Ribs, Hyoid, and Vertebral Column (Spine). These bones will always touch the midline of the body.

The Appendicular skeleton refers to the bones that make up the appendages of the body. This includes the shoulder girdle (Scapula and Clavicle) arms, legs, and hip girdle (ilium, ischium, and pubis)

Tips!
The head of a bone will always be medial! For
example, the top of the femur bone is medial to the
opposite end of the femur. The head of a bone will
also always make up part of a ball and socket joint.
Examples of this are the femur and the humerus.

In order to determine the difference between Tibia
and Fibula, you can use the simple phrase “Fibs are
little lies”. The Fibula is always smaller than the
Tibia. The Tibia will also always be medial to the
Fibula. Therefore, you will find the Medial Malleolus
on the Tibia, and the Lateral Malleolus on the Fibula.
