Number Theory

For a vocabulary review, you have your students playing a game. In the front of the room you have two boxes labeled prime and composite. A student draws a natural number out of a bag and the class tells them which box to put it in. Everything is going well. They put the numbers 4, 8, and 12 into the composite box and the numbers 3, 7, and 13 into the prime box. But then Julio picks the number 1. Some of the class is telling him to put it into the prime box, some are saying it belongs in the composite box, and others are saying it doesn’t go in either box. Do you know where it goes and why?
