Accessibility

LOUIS: The Louisiana Library Network is committed to upholding the accessibility and usability of the works we produce and/or host.

As articulated in the Web Accessibility Statement, LOUIS adheres to applicable federal and state accessibility requirements, including Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. LOUIS works collaboratively with partners to promote accessibility and improve user experience and acknowledges accessibility may depend on the design, configuration, or practices of third-party providers or other partners.

Content Accessibility

This book has been checked and remediated for accessibility compliance in accordance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, level AA. It was last updated for accessibility May 2026. At that time, there were no known issues.

Content was reviewed for accessibility using the Editora11y plugin the Pressbooks Accessibility Authoring Tool. Specific accessibility features of this book include:

  • Content is organized using sequential headings & subheadings.
  • All images have an alt text tag or are marked as decorative.
  • Link text is descriptive and makes sense without the surrounding content.
  • Link text conveys the destination and expected behavior of the link.
  • Linked content has been assessed for accessibility to the best of the author’s ability and permissions access.
  • Tables include header rows and organize data.
  • Font is readable with appropriate type, size and color contrast.

Accessibility of Web, PDF, and EPUB Versions

Pressbooks webbooks are designed to be accessible for users of all abilities and compatible with screen readers and other assistive technologies. Pressbooks provides a VPAT. To learn more about the accessibility of this platform, visit Accessibility at Pressbooks.

Pressbooks allows users to produce various export files. Included with this book are two different types of PDF export files and an EPUB file. “PDF (for digital distribution)” exports use the PDF/UA-1 profile, which means that these digital PDFs will be tagged for accessibility and are designed to be read on a screen with maximal accessibility. “PDF (for print)” exports use the PDF/X-4 profile and are primarily designed to be used with print on demand services and do not include all of the additional accessibility enhancements present with “PDF (for digital distribution)” exports. The accessibility of EPUB files is largely driven by the underlying HTML structure of the document, and can also be influenced by the capabilities of the software selected by the reader.
