8 Final Thoughts: Hitting a Wall

Narcissa Haskins and Jazzlynn Boyd

We understand that research and writing can sometimes be a long and lengthy process, but our hope with this toolkit was to simplify the process that will allow for a more streamlined approach. That does not mean that the process is always easy or linear. In research, we teach that research can sometimes be messy. If you find that you are still having trouble with developing your topic, finding valuable resources, or even getting past the brainstorming process, reach out to your institution’s librarians. Librarians, like ourselves, can offer research support at any point in the research process. Perhaps youre having trouble organizing your thoughts, synthesizing information, or syntax and grammar. Your institution’s writing center can help you with that. Writing centers can help you develop your argument more clearly and highlight any gaps that you may have missed. We’ve linked the library and writing center below. There’s no shame in needing help; that’s what these resources are for. Your instructors are also a great source of support. They can offer clarity for what they’re asking for or guide you to the most appropriate resource for your needs. We all hit walls sometimes, but don’t let that stop you from pushing forward.
