iii. UNO Annual Events
One of the best parts of being a Privateer is getting to experience the traditions that make life at UNO unique. Throughout the year, our campus comes alive with events that bring students together to celebrate, connect, and have fun. Whether you’re dancing at a block party, enjoying crawfish with friends, or marching in our very own Mardi Gras parade, these moments become core memories. Check out the video below to see some of our campus’ great traditions!
Here are a few of our most-loved traditional events:
Welcome Back Block Party
The first Thursday of every fall semester kicks off with this high-energy celebration in the University Center! Enjoy free food, a DJ, dancing, games, and a great chance to meet other Privateers. It’s the perfect way to start the school year strong.
Start Fresh Fest
Held at the beginning of each semester, Start Fresh Fest is a one-stop shop for learning about student organizations, campus resources, and upcoming events. If you aren’t sure where to start on your involvement journey this is the place for you!
💙 Homecoming 💙
Homecoming at UNO is a week full of school spirit and campus pride every November. Events include a banner competition, dance party, tailgates, themed activities, and the crowning of our Homecoming Royalty. Each year has a unique theme, but the goal is always the same: celebrate our students and show off our Privateer pride.

Leadership Retreat
Each year, student leaders set off on a weekend adventure of learning, reflection, and connection. Through interactive workshops and themed challenges, participants explore their leadership style, build team skills, and return inspired to lead on campus. https://www.uno.edu/student-involvement-leadership/retreat
Campus Community Markets
On the first Wednesday of every month, the UNO Quad transforms into a vibrant market featuring student org fundraisers, and tasty treats. It’s the perfect midday break and a great way to support your fellow students.
Swampball
Do you like volleyball? Every wanted to play it in a swamp? Welcome to UNO’s annual Swampball game! Held each year by the UNO Ambassadors to raise money for scholarships, this event is a UNO staple and tons of fun!

Krewe of UNO Parade
UNO celebrates Mardi Gras season with its very own parade! Student organizations, staff, and faculty decorate “floats,” dance, costume, toss beads, and parade through campus to the sounds of brass bands and cheers. It’s fun, festive, and a great way to kick off your carnival season! The Krewe of UNO always rolls on the Tuesday before Fat Tuesday.
SUCbAUF (Students Unwinding with Crawfish, Beer, and Unprecedented Fun)
This signature spring tradition is all about relaxing and enjoying good company. SUCbAUF is pronounced suck-off and has been happening for almost 40 years! On the last Tuesday of the semester, the campus comes together to enjoy crawfish, games, and live entertainment. It’s a delicious way to close out the academic year and a true UNO bucket-list experience.

Late Night with the Greeks
Get to know UNO’s fraternities and sororities in a fun, informal setting! This late-night event features games, music, and chances to meet members of the Greek community. Whether you’re thinking about joining or just want a fun night out, everyone is welcome!
Leadership Recognition Ceremony
Each spring, we gather to celebrate the students, organizations, and advisors who’ve gone above and beyond to make UNO better. Awards are presented for leadership, service, innovation, and school spirit—and it’s a great chance to dress up and cheer each other on.
Events like these are part of what makes being a Privateer so special. You can show up, try something new, and make memories that will last long after graduation. Which events are you making a goal to attend this year?
