Photo by University of New Orleans

Beyond student policies, UNO’s Administrative Policies (APs) contain rules that affect daily life—from freedom of expression to hazing. Browse the full list here: https://www.uno.edu/about-uno/office-of-the-president/resources/administrative-policies

Key policies include:

  • AP-SA‑02.7 Freedom of Expression
  • AP‑SA‑03.8 Hazing Prevention
  • AP‑SA‑05.4 Student Rights & Responsibilities

These help you know what to expect and where to find answers.

When You Hit a Storm

Let’s be clear: you don’t need to wait until something becomes a crisis or a mistake to speak up. UNO is here to support you before things spiral. Whether you’re facing a tough situation yourself or you notice something concerning happening to a classmate or friend, your first move should be to reach out.

You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to let someone know.

Here are some things students should report or ask for help with:

  • Academic issues
→ You’ve been accused of cheating or plagiarizing and don’t know what to do
→ You need accommodations for a disability or temporary condition
→ You’ve missed multiple classes due to illness or family emergency
  • Conduct concerns
→ You witnessed or experienced threats, violence, property damage, or harassment
→ There was a major disruption in class or in your residence hall
→ Someone is repeatedly violating community rules in a way that affects others
  • Power-based violence
→ You experienced or witnessed sexual harassment, stalking, or relationship violence
→ A friend shared something with you that concerns you
→ You want to understand your options and rights under Title IX
  • Personal or behavioral red flags
→ You or someone you know is struggling with depression, anxiety, or hopelessness
→ You’ve noticed a classmate’s behavior change dramatically (e.g., not showing up, acting erratically)
→ You’re overwhelmed and unsure how to navigate school, home, or work stress
