Acknowledgments

Dear Faculty Member,

First, thank you for adopting and teaching with this textbook. A group of us created this open resource using a grant from LOUIS Libraries.

The Moodle online course that accompanies this textbook is divided into eight-week segments. The readings, though, are probably too much to teach in an eight-week semester. As someone who has taught with this textbook in both a four-week and now eight-week learning module, I recommend condensing the units and not using some sections. The readings are heavy and dense. The idea for the course is that students read deeply and intently rather than read for quantity. You have both our permission and recommendation to make judicious cuts to the readings and learning modules.

One strategy may be to separate each learning module – for example, “Art and Aesthetics” – into a two-week learning module. The readings and assignments would be spaced out over that two-week period.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or feedback.

Sincerely,
