The coiled tube of the small intestine is subdivided into three regions called the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. The ileum joins the cecum of the large intestine at the ileocecal sphincter. The ileocecal valve controls the flow of chyme from the small intestine to the large intestine. See Figure 11.8 IMAGE ATTRIBUTION for an illustration of these regions.

Audio file 2: This recording of Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550 (First Movement – Molto Allegro, meaning “very fast and lively”) features strings, woodwinds, and horns (with clarinets included in some versions). The brisk tempo drives restless, urgent string patterns, lyrical woodwind melodies, and bold horn calls. The movement’s fast pace and dramatic contrasts convey Mozart’s turbulent and emotional style, making it one of his most celebrated symphonic works. Press the play button to listen to the file.
